I'm a college kid that trains, crossfit and strength. I eat lacto-ovo vegetarian, and I am stronger and faster than ever before. I am happily married to a wonderful woman who is also into health and vegetarian lifestyle. I'm going to use this to post my inspiration, my training, and my nutrition. Go ahead and ask me anything.
Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
Short story long. My quest of strength began in 2003, when i started playing High School football. I was a 5’8 scrawny kid that had some speed and no strength, oh and glasses. I grew up with dreams of being an all star tight end, but after the first couple of practices without glasses on, my coaches told me that I was going to be an offensive lineman. All 5’8 150# of me. So then we started our strength training. Two or three times a week we would bench, squat, or deadlift with accessory movements also. I couldnt squat over 185 for a single, bench over 115, or deadlift 205. I was small and weak. Fast forward to the end of high school, i blew up to a soft 220#, with a one rep max of 155 bench, 0 pull ups, around 250# Deadlift, and a 225# squat. None of those numbers make any sense if you compare them to my body weight.
So I get out of high school and I start reading Men’s Fitness, and I come across a book entitiled the Ab’s Diet. I have always wanted a six pack, so I decide that this “diet” will work. It started the weight drop down to a solid 170#. The training that I did during this phase of life consisted of low weight high rep squats and bench, and of course working out my “abs” and “arms” trying to get YOKED and SWOLE. Well needless to say, i stayed around 170+ or - 4#. I thought that having my little bit of definition in my midsection and arms meant a lot.
The beginning of my change in training, when the movie 300 came on. I wanted to look like them so i researched and found the “300” workout “25 pull ups, 50 box jumps, 50 push ups, 50 deadlifts 135#, 50 Kettlebell snatches 36#, 50 Floor sweeps, 25 pull ups,” This in turn led me to join a rock climbing gym, which in turn introduced me to CrossFit. I have been implementing CrossFit and Metabolic conditioning into all my training sessions since around 2008. This is what got me leaned out to 160 at 6’ and i thought that i was ripped and in shape. Then I realized I wasn’t big enough.
I Started reading about powerlifting via Elitefts.com and i became enthralled with it. I started doing my own programming and thinking that i was doing a great job. Not really. I was just doing sets of random weights at random reps and writing it down. This is when i finally decided to buy Jim Wendler’s 5/3/1 book and do the program. This was in August of 2010, and I have been doing the program ever since, with metabolic conditioning and I have seen solid gains.Currently my 1rm are 300#-BS
350#-DL
205#-BP
135#-MP
I know that the bench and military are higher now, but I do not care to test them, as long as I continue to make gains in my 5RM and other rep maxes I will be happy.
So follow if you would like, it will mostly be a training log, with a strength bias, and I will post other random things on here as well being that i am a human not a training robot.
